Compress and Convert Images in the Editor

Automatically compress large images and convert WebP, HEIC, SVG, and more.

Starting today, the Broadcast and Template editors automatically:

  • compress large images
  • convert unsupported formats

These improvements happen before upload. Drop, paste, or pick any image and the editor prepares it for email.

Automatic compression

Email clients render most emails around 600px wide, so a full-resolution photo requires every recipient to download a larger image for no benefit.

  • Images over 1 MB are resized to a maximum of 1500px wide and re-encoded.
  • GIFs are never compressed, so animations stay intact.

Lighter images load faster for your recipients and keep your emails smaller.

Format conversion

Email clients reliably support JPEG, PNG, and GIF. Other formats are not commonly supported, so they are now converted in the browser before upload:

  • SVG
  • WebP and AVIF
  • HEIC and HEIF (photos from iPhone)
  • BMP, ICO, and TIFF (TIFF only in browsers that can read it)

Images with transparency become PNG, so logos and cut-outs keep their transparent background. Everything else becomes JPEG. Converted images are also resized to a maximum of 1500px wide, whatever their file size.

Conclusion

You no longer need to resize or convert images before adding them to an email.
