Resend acquires Briefer

An important step in evolving how Resend processes terabytes of data at scale.

Today, we are thrilled to announce that Resend has acquired Briefer (YC S23).

Resend now processes terabytes of data every week. As our users continue to grow, fast data processing, analysis, and storage have become crucial.

The Briefer team has mastered the challenge of handling massive volumes of data at scale. Together, we will make Resend faster and ready for the next billion emails.

The story of Briefer

Lucas da Costa and Lucas Vieira founded Briefer after more than a decade of building open-source projects together.

Lucas da Costa is a published author and former engineer at Elastic. He maintained large OSS projects like Chai.js and Sinon.js. Lucas Vieira helped scale the infrastructure at Joga, where he built systems to serve machine learning models to thousands of users.

After joining YC's Summer 2023 batch, they set out to solve a clear problem: simple dashboards were no longer enough for companies with petabytes of data.

Briefer combined SQL and Python with a powerful interactive workspace for exploring data, prototyping models, and building dynamic dashboards and data apps.

All this powered by AI.

As an open-source product, their platform quickly won the trust of data teams, earning over 4,000 stars on GitHub, and supporting customers like VTEX, Whop, and Incognia.

In total, Briefer has:

  • Created 9,241 compute environments (spun up in < 1s on average and zero downtime)
  • Processed over 3,500,000 notebook blocks

What will happen to Briefer

Briefer will continue to support existing users for the next 90 days. After that, they will open-source their entire codebase, including Briefer's enterprise version.

The Briefer platform will be sunset on November 5th, 2025, as we focus all efforts on integrating their expertise into Resend's core platform and infrastructure.

What does this mean for Resend

Resend is growing at an incredible pace, and scaling our infrastructure is key to maintaining the performance our customers expect as we process billions of emails.

As we continue to grow, data becomes increasingly critical, and we're confident that Briefer's team will help us deliver better insights and visibility to our users.

This is just the beginning.
